In loving memory of Charline, who graced this world on November 4th, 1986, in Saint Michel de L' Atalaye, Haiti, and peacefully departed on August 15th, after a valiant battle with cancer. Her journey was illuminated by unwavering faith, love, and an indomitable spirit that left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate to know her.

Charline was the beloved daughter of Harry and Noncilia Phanord. She is survived by her parents, her sisters Fara Phanord, Merlyne Phanord and her brother Jerry Phanord and her devoted husband, Gregory Casimir, and their two cherished children, Gregory Ashton and Kaylah Skye, who were the light of her life. Charline and Gregory’s love story began in 2014, culminating in a beautiful wedding on May 13, 2018, in Paramus, NJ. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter in Portland, Connecticut, where Charline joyfully embraced motherhood, delighting in creating magical birthday celebrations for Ashton and Kaylah.

A compassionate soul, Charline pursued her calling as a nurse after completing her education in Maryland. Her career was marked by dedication and empathy, especially in her role at a nursing home in Portland, where she tenderly cared for the elderly, offering comfort and dignity in their twilight years.

Charline’s life was a testament to her deep faith, which never wavered, even in the face of life’s greatest challenges. Her belief in God and her capacity for kindness and resilience inspired all who knew her. Her hobbies and interests reflected her vibrant spirit and love for family and community.

A service to celebrate Charline’s life will be held on August 29th at 9:00 AM at the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St, Portland, CT 06480. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the joy and love she brought into the world.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the friends, family, and healthcare workers who provided unwavering support during this difficult time. 

Charline’s legacy is one of love, strength, and faith, and she will forever be remembered in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Patricia Shanahan Aresco, age 84, of Portland, CT, died suddenly on August 14th, surrounded by her family. Born in Bennington, Vermont on June 13th, 1942, she was the daughter of William T. and Anna Mae Shanahan. In 1969 she married Louis Aresco and together they settled in Portland where they raised their family and became active members of the community.

A proud Vermonter through and through, Pat graduated from Bennington Catholic High School and received her B.A. Degree from the University of Vermont. She later earned her M.A.L.S. Degree from Wesleyan University. Pat spent her career in education, first as a teacher in Meriden, CT, then as a substitute teacher in Portland, and finally as a Data Manager for Middletown Adult Education for many years.

Pat was very active in the Portland community, serving as a Selectwoman, a founding member and past President of the Portland Historical Society, a justice of the peace, and on many local boards and committees. Her faith was an important part of her life. You could often find Pat at the Church of St. Mary in Portland where she was an active parishioner and volunteer. She lived her Christianity by example, always putting others needs before hers.

An avid golfer who played in local women’s and couples’ leagues, Pat introduced the sport to her children and though she could no longer play, was delighted that her children and grandchildren took up the game she loved so much. She and Lou traveled extensively across America, and after his death, she ventured abroad with good friends. In recent years, she was happy with a good book, a crossword, a puzzle on her computer, a card game with friends, or a game of cribbage. She enjoyed a shared meal or evening together with friends, especially her dear friends of over fifty years, Barbara Novak and Pat Alsup (deceased). Above all, she cherished time with her family and watching her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews grow.

She is survived by her son, Joseph D. Aresco and his wife Angela of Portland, and her daughter Jennifer Brennan and her husband Peter of Marblehead, MA. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Alysha Haber and her husband Joshua of Merritt Island Florida and their children Elias and Odeliah, Devin Aresco of Cromwell, CT, Joshua Aresco of Portland, CT, and Caroline and Patrick Brennan of Marblehead, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews. 

As a woman of strong faith, Pat is now reunited with her many loved ones who predeceased her, especially her beloved husband of 44 years, Lou; her sister Jeanne Cullinan; and her niece Christina Cullinan.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, August 24th at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary on 51 Freestone Ave., Portland, CT. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, August 23rd from 5 to 7 pm at the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland, CT. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Portland, CT.

Jacqueline Elizabeth Etheridge, “Jacqui”, 63, passed away peacefully on August 5th, with her beloved husband, Donn Etheridge by her side. Born in Boston to her mother, Regina Roberge and her father, John “Jack” Mock, Jacqui lived a life filled with love, family, friendship, and a remarkable dedication to the things that brought her joy.

At the center of Jacqui’s world was her husband, Donn, who affectionately called her “Kiddo.” Their love and devotion to one another were at the heart of her life. She treasured her children, Megan and Matt, and was happiest surrounded by the people she loved.

Jacqui is also survived by her brother, Michael Vingris, and his girlfriend, Vikki Brothers, as well as her extended family, including Joann Ginn and other beloved family members. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Vingris, whose memory remained an important part of her family and her life. 

Jacqui had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed working out, quilting, crafting, and especially karate. Over more than 30 years of practicing karate, she earned the rank of third-degree black belt, a testament to her determination, discipline, perseverance, and strength of character. A special place in Jacqui’s heart was held by her dear friend Marilyn Gattinella, with whom she shared many years of friendship, laughter and a love of quilting.

Jacqui also had a special love for animals. They brought her great joy and were another reflection of the caring heart she shared so freely.

Those who knew Jacqui will remember a strong, loving woman who devoted herself to her family, embraced life with enthusiasm, and made lasting impressions on the people around her. Her love for her family, her many passions, and her joyful spirit will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

Though she is deeply missed, Jacqui’s memory lives on in Donn, Megan, Matt, her extended family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

There will be no calling hours.The family will remember Jacqui privately and with gratitude for the love, laughter and memories she shared with those closest to her.
