Conrad Hauk

Elderly man in white polo and navy shorts at a beach boardwalk.

Conrad J. Hauk (Connie), the legendary hawk, took his final flight from this earth due to congestive heart failure on June 11th, with his beloved wife, Linda, by his side. He was born in Hartford to Joseph and Augusta Noch Hauk and lived his early years in the Manchester/Bolton area. He lived in Portland for nearly 42 years.

Both his parents passed away when Connie was a teenager and he knew that if he wanted the grown-up toys he would have to work for them. After a stint in the Air Force, he began a life-long career in the automobile business as he loved anything with an engine. He worked for several dealerships and gained a reputation as an outstanding salesman who was much sought after. He eventually joined Daniels Cadillac which later became Thomas Cadillac Jaguar. For several years he received the Master Manager with Distinction award and continued to be sought by other dealerships but remained loyal to the Thomas family whom he admired. He retired as a very successful General Sales Manager in 2006.

After Linda retired, they spent winters in Florida until Connie’s health started declining. Over the years, they enjoyed their boats, motorcycles, sports cars, NASCAR races and travel. A Sunday 300 mile ride on his motorcycle with Linda seated behind him was not unusual.

In addition to Linda, he is survived by daughter-in-law Nancy Stearns Hauk of Florida, and Linda’s extended family in Ohio and Michigan who embraced him as a much loved brother and favorite uncle. He was predeceased by his son, Conrad J. Hauk, Jr. He will be missed by many.

Arrangements are under the direction of Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main Street, Portland, CT. Calling hours are Monday, June 22nd from 5 to 7 PM. As a final act of love, Connie requested that his remains eventually be interred with Linda.

Friends who wish may send donations in his memory to the Portland Food Bank, P.O. Box 71, Portland CT 06480.
